“How do I drive traffic to my blog?” you ask.
Well, you’re not the first to ask.
I talk to people all day long with the same question.
It’s no fun to create a blog and then have nobody ever read it, or engage in conversation with you, click your affiliate links or join your list.
Those are some of the main reasons people write blogs to begin with.
When somebody creates their first blog, they are a blogging “newbie.”
They don’t know anybody in the blogosphere, they don’t have any blogging friends, they have no connections. They certainly have no readers or followers.
This is a big concern for them.
Still, “How do I drive traffic to my blog?” is not a question I get just from newbies.
Even seasoned pros, sometimes people who have been blogging for months, even years ask me this. Many of them even get lots of traffic already.
Here’s the thing…
If you have a blog, and no traffic, it’s pretty much the same as having no blog.
If you have a blog with only a little traffic, you need to get more.
If you have a blog with lots of traffic, you need to tap into new traffic sources so your blog reaches a wider audience.
So, let’s be clear about something.
Traffic flow to your blog is like blood flowing through your veins.
Without it, you’re dead.
So, what’s the best way to start getting that flow pumping?

Advertising
There are two main approaches you should think about.
One is a method you’ll need to pay for.
If you have some money to invest, then paying for advertising can be a great way to get prime the traffic pump.
Here are some good options.
You can buy Facebook ads that will usually send people to a signup page, where they can obtain something free that you offer them.
Your free offer can be a report, an ebook, a video, a cheat sheet, a webinar… anything that gives people value. When they sign up for it, they agree to join your email list.

From here, you can drive traffic to your blog by sending email messages to your list. Let people know each time you publish a new blog post, so they can check it out.
You can also put links to your blog within your ebook or report, or along with a video or anything else you’re giving them when they sign up for your email list.
An even easier way to drive paid traffic to your blog via Facebook, is to create a “fan page.” From that page, post a link to your current blog article, and then pay a small fee to “boost” that post. This will allow it to reach far more people than just those who would normally visit your fan page.
Banner Ads
Get a banner made that promotes your blog.
A banner is simply an advertisement. You see them on the sidebars of most blogs and websites.
Instead of putting the banner on your blog, though, pay a fee, which is usually not very high, to another blogger. In exchange, that blogger will put your banner on their blog. This can send traffic from their blog to yours.
Rather than pay for your banner ad to be placed, you might try swapping banners. Using this method, you’ll promote somebody’s blog for them, and in exchange, they’ll promote yours.
If you don’t know how to get a banner made, just visit Fiverr (dot com) and search for people to make one for you… for five bucks.
Email Ads
Similar to the Facebook strategy I outlined above, you can place your free offer with a “solo ad” vendor.
A solo ad vendor is someone who will send out an email to their list, asking them to check out your free offer.
You pay a flat fee and in return, are guaranteed a minimum number of clicks. So, for instance, you might pay $100 for a guarantee of 150 clicks.
When people click on your offer, they can sign up or not. So you’re not guaranteed that they’ll join your list to get your offer, only that they’ll click the link in the vendor’s email to see your invitation to sign up.
This is usually a very good way to start building up your email list pretty quickly.

Once you have people on your email list, you need to send them emails with links to your current blog posts.
That’s another excellent method for driving traffic to your blog on a consistent basis.
Socializing
Socializing via social media platforms may be an even better method for building your list from two perspectives.
1. Because you’re socializing, people will have some familiarity with who you are before they see your invitation to sign up for your list, or to click over to your latest blog post. This means that if they do start following you, they will probably be a better fit for your topic than if they just joined your list from a paid ad, without really knowing much about you.
2. It’s a free method. So if you have no operating budget, like zero, this is where you’ll want to begin.
On the negative side of socializing, it takes a lot of time. But if you keep up with it consistently, it can very well drive a mass of traffic to your blog on a daily basis.
Don’t expect socializing to work overnight, though. And don’t expect it to work if you’re only socializing here and there, now and then. You need to set up a schedule for how you’ll do this, and keep up on it every single day.
That’s how people will become familiar with you.
Just like with advertising, Facebook is probably the top socializing platform.
You need to find people who are interested in the same topic or niche as your blog.
If your blog is about network marketing, find people interested in the topic on Facebook.

You can even start socializing with specific network marketing companies, and strike up conversations with representatives from different companies that might like hearing about how your blog posts can be of value to them.
Some Facebook groups allow you to post links to your blog posts, especially if you offer them as free, valuable information, not as promotional links.
Over time, you should start building up a group of Facebook friends who start visiting your blog on a regular basis.
Other Social Media
Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit and others can be used in similar fashion.
Just be sure that whatever social media platform you use to get traffic to your blog, that you do it consistently.
And never be pushy or spammy. Only give people links to your blog posts when they offer good, valuable information, and when those links are welcomed by people. Don’t try hunting people down, or they’ll run away from you.
Social media must be used in social manner. Do not make it part of an overtly promotional campaign, unless you’re buying advertising for that purpose.
All social media platforms offer paid methods for advertising on them, in addition to using them as a free means for building relationships with like-minded people.
Blog Commenting
Probably the single most effective means for driving traffic to your blog is to visit other people’s blogs. Leave them a great comment, and they may return the favor by visiting your blog. But even if they don’t, other people reading their articles might become interested in you when you’re leaving thoughtful and helpful comments, and they can visit your blog as well.
Make sure to build a list of bloggers that you visit on a regular basis. That list should be comprised mostly of bloggers who are in your same niche, so that you’ll know their readers will also be interested in your blog posts.
You also want to find bloggers who have a lot of commenting on their blogs. There’s little sense in using this strategy on blogs where nobody’s engaged.
Finally, you can find many good bloggers who are involved in blogging co-operatives, often called “blogging communities” or “blogging tribes.”
Most of these are free. Just do a Google search for them, sign up, and get to work. They are a great source of traffic and social proof to others that your blog has legitimate value.
